Hunt down lower electricity free comparison prices with ukpowerswitch.com
We're UK Britain's top gas & electricity free comparison switching service because we're quick and completely impartial.
We'll compare electricity prices in your area so you can choose the best free comparison deal and switch online. All we need is your postcode. Then answer a few easy questions about your current supplier and what you want from your new supplier. What have you got to lose? Apart from high electricity prices.
What's happening to electricity prices?
Electricity customers have spent the last few years seeing their prices go up and up and up. Since 2003 the average increase in electricity prices from the six major suppliers (British Gas, EDF Energy, npower, E.ON, Scottish and Southern Energy and ScottishPower) was 61.7% or £148. In 2006 alone there was two electricity price increases from each major supplier.
Although 2007 has seen suppliers reducing their electricity prices, this has not been enough to date, to counter the huge increases customers had experienced. So there are still plenty of savings to be made on your bills.
What can I do about rising electricity prices?
Try comparing electricity prices to see if you are on the best deal. At the close of 2006 at least 10 million energy customers had never switched suppliers, according to Consumer Focus, the independent watchdog and were missing out on over £1 billion in savings. Make sure you're not missing out by comparing your energy supplier on uSwitch's free and impartial comparison service

Economy 7 is an electricity tariff with different pricing structures according to the time of day. The energy you use during the night costs less, per unit, than energy used during the day with Economy 7.
Will Economy 7 save me money?
Obviously with Economy 7 you'll use more energy during the night than the day, so you will save money. However, you need to be using roughly 20% of your energy consumption at night to be making a saving. And when they say night, they really mean night - the cheaper tariff usually starts around 1am and finishes around 8am (this can vary by supplier and region).
How does Economy 7 work?
Another important factor to take into consideration with Economy 7 is that is that, although you can heat your water and storage heater continually throughout the night, this may be insufficient to last you through the day. The morning is generally nice and warm, with enough hot water for a bath or shower, but as you reach the evening your house will probably start growing colder. If you were thinking about having a lovely hot bubble bath after work - forget about it!
Switch Economy 7 with uSwitch.com
If you're interested in comparing your current Economy 7 tariff against those offered by other suppliers, then use the online price comparison service. You may discover you can save money simply by switching suppliers. If you don’t currently have an Economy 7 meter, you’ll need to convert your meter before you can use uSwitch.com to switch supplier.
Anything I need to look out for?
Be aware that some Economy 7 tariffs may charge you almost double the standard rate for any energy you use during the day, which can quickly cancel out any savings you've made through using Economy 7 at night.
I'm still considering Economy 7. What do I do?
Moving to an Economy 7 tariff involves a change of meter, which your current supplier should be able to arrange for you (sometimes for a price).
Once you have changed your meter you can switch between suppliers, so make sure to check out the energy comparison calculator on uSwitch.com, to find the cheapest deal available to you.

UK Big Freeze emergency energy saving
Supplies of gas are low
Snow, ice and freezing temperatures have caused demand to rocket by 30% compared to what would usually be expected at this time of year.
Even using electricity can help burn a hole in the country's stock, as power stations often use gas to generate energy.
Britons have been warned to brace themselves for an increase in gas and electricity as plunging temperatures increase the cost of our gas and electricity bill for the weeks to come.
It is a timely reminder for households that, while the wintry weather is very "pretty" - many will face an ugly energy bill as a result.
Today, the prime minister insisted gas supplies were not running out, despite record levels of demand. Brown said: "I can assure you: supplies are not running out. We've got plenty of gas in our own backyard – the North Sea – and we also have access to the large reserves in Norway and Netherlands."
On Friday, a government emergency planning committee met to discuss the UK's state of preparation if the cold weather continues. Well, Thanks to the freezing weather and thousands of snowbound people being stuck in their houses because they can't make it to the office, we're all facing a heavier bills than normal.
whether you want to do your very small bit for the nation's gas supplies, or simply cut down your energy bills, here are some ways to do so.
Moving to a cheaper energy supplier won't help you cut back on energy but it will save you money on the gas and electricity you do use.
